The Bay Area Crisis Nursery (BACN) has been a vital resource for families in need since 1981. We ensure children are safe, healthy, and able to thrive emotionally and physically by providing compassionate care and support to families in crisis.

Our mission is clear—to prevent child abuse and neglect by offering critical services to families during difficult times. We create a warm, safe, and loving environment where children receive short-term care while their parents address challenging circumstances.

All BACN services are free, voluntary, and confidential. We offer a unique program in the San Francisco Bay Area, providing emergency childcare and short-term residential care. These services give parents peace of mind, knowing their children are in a safe, nurturing space while they handle crises. By intervening early, we prevent abuse and give children the best chance to thrive.

Many families who turn to BACN face poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, medical and mental health issues, or sudden childcare loss. For these families, paying for quality childcare or overnight care is often not an option. Our services provide a lifeline, helping parents regain stability and access the resources they need to heal.

In addition to our core services, BACN offers a Respite Care program, which provides monthly support to families. This helps reduce stress and gives parents time to focus on long-term solutions for their family's wellbeing.
