Free Emergency Childcare Services

The Bay Area Crisis Nursery (BACN) is excited to announce that we are expanding our services to include emergency childcare services from 7am – 7pm daily. Families in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area will have access to 30 days of free childcare in a 6-month period. Our services are free, confidential, and voluntary.

“Free emergency daycare will be critical as our community begins to recover from the pandemic,” says Executive Director Tara Bartholomew. “Families can schedule free childcare for their child(ren) in as little as 24 hours if they have a doctor’s appointment, job interview, need to start a new job, or simply need a break.”

According to the COVID-19 Parent Survey by the California Child Care Resource & Referral Network, it’s clear that this is an extremely stressful time for parents. At the conclusion of the report, they stated “While higher income families are able to hire a babysitter, nanny, or tutor, lower and middle income families are often left with few options, especially if they’re a single parent or don’t have family in the area (or that family is considered high risk). Many parents have had their hours or salaries cut at work, and now have the unexpected cost of child care added on top of it.”

Our emergency childcare services will help ease the financial burden and reduce parental stress. Parents with children from birth through 5 years of age will be able to schedule their children in as little as 24-hours notice (space permitting). Families will also have access to everyday essentials (food, formula, diapers, clothes, etc.), case management, and referral resources. Our ultimate goal is that all children are safe, healthy, and thrive both emotionally and physically.

BACN is grateful for the community’s support and generosity which allows them to remain open 24/7 and provide free daycare to families! 1. Wondering if you might be interested in the services of a registered dietitian? I am recently retired with a specialty of infant and toddler nutrition. I worked for 20 years with the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery, Follow up clinic for premies, and case management of children with failure to thrive. I do realize that with the pandemic opportunities to volunteer are limited. Feel free to email me.

    1. Hi Allora,
All of our volunteer services have been suspended during COVID. We are high risk as a residential care facility. If you are interested when the pandemic settles, we would be happy to discuss potential volunteer opportunities with you in the spring or potentially summer. We do have board of directors positions that are available. We meet via Zoom. Thanks for thinking of our Nursery!
